There Are Perfect Storage Units Out There

Blog

A good storage unit can come in handy in many different situations. Often, storage units are used to safely store belongings during a remodel, when transitioning into a new home, or even for long-term storage. Most storage facilities are built well, and provide a fantastic service. However, there are a few different aspects of the storage unit that are extremely important. Here are a few things that you should inspect your potential storage unit for when shopping around.

Pests

When you are looking at potential storage unit facilities, look for any signs of pests. Some common pests that like to hang out in storage units are ants and rodents. Pests can get especially bad in the winter months. There are a few things that you can do to inspect for pests. The first thing that you should do is visually inspect the unit. Look for any signs of ants or other insects. Check the area for rodents by looking for fecal pellets. Also, rodents will often leave a grease stain on the end of the unit. The second method that you want to use is the facility manager. They do not want to be known as a storage facility with a pest problem. So, talk to the manager and see what they are actively doing to protect against pests.

Weather

Most of the units are going to provide you with items with protection against the elements. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and other natural disasters aside, the storage unit should protect against the common rainstorm and other elements. When you are looking at your unit, ensure that there has been no water damage or water leakage. Look on the floor to see any sings of standing water. You will also want to check the ceiling to look for any rust or dripping water. If you notice that there has been water in the unit, make sure you bring it to the attention of the property manager. They will want to know that there is water in one of their units.

Climate Control

If you are going to be storing electronics, then you are going to want your storage unit to be climate-controlled. The majority of the climate-controlled units will be inside units that keep your electronics from going through freeze and thaw cycles. These cycles can cause the metal components to expand and contract. This expansion and contraction can actually cause a great deal of damage to the electronics. So, if the unit is able to stay at a constant temperature, you will not have any problems. Contact a company like Westview Public Mini-Storage to learn more.

I Moved Across the Country and You Can Too

Growing up in Washington state, I dreamed of a life in New York City. While I went to a college close to save money, I knew that after graduation, I would soon be hunting for jobs in the big city! While it took a little time and a lot of dedication, I soon found a company in New York that wanted to hire me, but didn't offer to help me relocate. I had never moved before, so the stress of not just starting a new job, but also facing a big move hit me all at once. I soon learned that good organization and planning take the stress out of making a big move. I love to write, so I decided to start a blog to share my moving tips to help others. Come back for a little fun and a lot of moving stress-relief!
